The Clearwater Bar Association is pleased to announce its 11th Annual Student Legal Intern Program (SLIP) which will welcome high school interns in the summer of 2017.
The program is designed to achieve these four goals:
1. To provide a valuable work experience;
2. To further the student’s understanding of the law; and
3. To provide a mentor relationship for the students
4. To enhance diversity in the legal profession
The CBA’s SLIP interns will be paid up to $1,944 for the six week program ($8.10/hour). Interns will perform various duties for their employers including copying, scanning, filing, summarizing depositions, making deliveries, answering phones, assembling trial notebooks, conducting research and observing legal procedures. The duties will be determined by the mentor/employer and therefore may vary from office to office.
Law firms and corporate legal departments that hire our interns pay the interns’ salaries during the summer. However, government agencies (including the courts) and public interest and service organizations are not able to pay interns from their own budgets. For this purpose, the Clearwater Bar Foundation has created a restricted fund to accept tax-deductible donations to support the SLIP program. The Foundation has provided more than $40,500 in support of SLIP since 2007.
If you would like to apply for an internship, host an intern, make a donation in support of the project, or need additional information about SLIP, please contact the Executive Director, Hinda Carbon at firstname.lastname@example.org or 727-461-4869. All applicants will be given equal consideration and if selected for the program will be required to provide a social security number.
