Jan-Mar : CBA Lawyers for Literacy Begins
YLD members participate in eleven week program that pairs attorneys with third-grade students struggling with reading for tutoring during the lunch hour.
Jan 13-15 : YLD Affiliate Outreach Conference
A Florida Bar yearly conference for all young lawyer bar associations where members network and purpose grant request for the upcoming year.
Jan 21 : YLD Holiday in January 10:00-2:00 PM
Throw a pizza party for underprivileged kids where they get to pick one toy; Clearwater Marine Aquarium donates admission and use of space for kids and their families; YLD provides an interpreter for Hearing-impaired families.
Feb. 11 : YLD Random Act of Flowers 12:00-4:00 pm
New project funded by the Florida Bar; YLD members will create bouquets of flowers and deliver them to individuals who do not have many visitors at a local hospital and nursing home.
March : YLD/CYP/ST. Pete YLD March Madness Watch Party
New event intended to connect young professionals in St. Petersburg and Clearwater to one another in a fund event focused around March Madness.
Mar. 25 : Oyster Roast
CBA’s biggest event ; YLD assists with portions of the catering as well as keeping volunteer students engaged and providing network opportunities.
Apr. 28: YLD Great Debate 1:00-5:00 PM
High School debate program created and run by YLD members; real judges hear final round arguments and provide feedback.
Apr 11 : CBA High School Speaker’s Program
YLD members speak to high school students about various legal issues that will face them as they come of age and well as the background of our profession.
Apr 19 : YLD Judicial Reception 5:30- 7:30 PM
A reception for local judges which allows young lawyers to network not only with judges but also more experienced lawyers.
May : YLD Health and Wellness Retreat
An event focused on promoting balance in young lawyers ‘lives; last year we had a free skate/hockey for families.
May. 5: Gold E. Locks v. Three Bears
Clearwater Bar Association is presenting the Case of Gold E. Locks versus the Three Bears as a mock trial for 2nd and 3rd graders. This is an opportunity for students to visit a real courtroom, see a "real" trial take place, and participate in Gold E. Locks' "sentencing." All this AND attorneys in bear costumes!
May 26 : YLD Young Professionals Marketing Event
An event focused on connecting young lawyers with young professional groups of local chambers.
YLD set up a reading sanctuary in Pinellas County Clearwater Courthouse in Clerks office where parent’s often filling out domestic violence paperwork or the similar; intended to provide the kids with a safe space for them to engaged in unfortunate situations; children are welcomed to take the book with them.
