Jan-Mar: CBA Lawyers for Literacy Begins
YLD members participate in eleven week program that pairs attorneys with third-grade students struggling with reading for tutoring during the lunch hour.
Jan: YLD Affiliate Outreach Conference
A Florida Bar yearly conference for all young lawyer bar associations where members network and propose grant requests for the upcoming year.
Jan: YLD Holiday in January 10:00-2:00 PM
Throw a pizza party for underprivileged kids where they get to pick one toy; Clearwater Marine Aquarium donates admission and use of space for kids and their families; YLD provides an interpreter for Hearing-impaired families.
Feb: YLD Random Act of Flowers 12:00-4:00 pm
New project funded by the Florida Bar; YLD members will create bouquets of flowers and deliver them to individuals who do not have many visitors at a local hospital and nursing home.
March: YLD/CYP/ST. Pete YLD March Madness Watch Party
New event intended to connect young professionals in St. Petersburg and Clearwater to one another in a fund event focused around March Madness.
Mar: Oyster Roast
CBA’s biggest event ; YLD assists with portions of the catering as well as keeping volunteer students engaged and providing network opportunities.
Apr: YLD Great Debate 1:00-5:00 PM
High School debate program created and run by YLD members; real judges hear final round arguments and provide feedback.
Apr: CBA High School Speaker’s Program
YLD members speak to high school students about various legal issues they might face as they come of age and well as the background of our profession.
Apr: YLD Judicial Reception 5:30- 7:30 PM
A reception for local judges which allows young lawyers to network not only with judges but also more experienced lawyers.
May: YLD Health and Wellness Retreat
An event focused on promoting balance in young lawyers' lives; last year we had a free skate/hockey for families.
May: Gold E. Locks v. Three Bears
Clearwater Bar Association is presenting the Case of Gold E. Locks versus the Three Bears as a mock trial for 2nd and 3rd graders. This is an opportunity for students to visit a real courtroom, see a "real" trial take place, and participate in Gold E. Locks' "sentencing." All this AND attorneys in bear costumes!
May: YLD Young Professionals Marketing Event
An event focused on connecting young lawyers with young professional groups of local chambers.
The YLD has set up a reading sanctuary in the Clerk's office of the Pinellas County Clearwater Courthouse- a place where parent’s often fill out domestic violence paperwork or the similar. This sanctuary is intended to provide children with a safe space for them to wait/read while in otherwise unfortunate situations. Children are welcomed to take the book with them.
